Trinity Fabricators Inc. installed a 4-axis computer-controlled plasma profiling machine from Vernon Tool Co., Oceanside, CA. Trinity, a leading fabricator of structural and miscellaneous steel, anticipates significant labor savings due to reduced manual layout and burning operations. Simple start-up yields immediate production of steel and aluminum handrails and stair systems. With proprietary Windows-based operating system, part programs are created at the operatorís console or from a remote-programming site. A touch screen display instantly toggles between data entry with graphic displays and an operating screen for all machine operations. "Automated machinery is the key to trimming labor from historically less profitable lines," said Trinity president, Merrill Westfall.
The Mastertube machine accommodates 1" to 6" O.D. tubing and pipe in 25' lengths. Moveable outboard pipe supports perform conveying and rotating functions. Four axes of simultaneous motion synchronize tube rotation, tube advance & retract, weld prep angle, and horizontal torch movement. Preprogrammed shapes include saddles, miters, centerline offsets, and multiple intersection shapes.
Dedicated off-line software allows simple entry and cutting of repetitive circular and rectangular picket hole patterns, as well as common mitered ends and saddle connections. Precise hole outlines and innovative assembly practices reduce handrail layout and welding time. |
